so id like to use the net when im out. but unless there is an open wireless network (please people i just want to connect to jabber! open your networks!) choices are limited.
there is woosh. which is too expensive and i dont think the coverage is great for the areas i’d like to use the net.
last of all we come to mobile internet.
telecom 1gb/month for 50$
vodafone 1gb/month for 60?
now that costs more then the dsl we have at home.
which will be at least 4 times faster (im thinking more) and the usage is 15gb (crappy i know but this is just another cost. why does data have to cost so much)
i can use 1gb in less then an hour if im focused.
any tele episode on youtube is 100mb+ aswell.
next we have method of connection. both telecom and vodafone offer laptop cards (linux support? nah!)(they also cost over 100$ (joining fee)) and should be able to bluetooth/irda over from a cellphone.
1. my laptop doesnt have infrared.
2. my phone doesnt have bluetooth
all in all im screwed.
plan:
wireless mesh? network using solar access points.
even if you have a very powerful AP your limited by how powerful your device is. eg. how much power it can push into the transmitter.
the AP is going to have to be within afew meters say under 50. for good reception.
my workplace is 3km from my house. APs should be able to transmit stronger signals then my devices perhaps a couple up some trees in a direct line would do it. line of sight ofcourse.
cost? 300$? probably. need AP, batteries. panel.
plan 2: access points + ethernet cable through parks (placed at under ground at night)
plan 3: homemade transmitter on better freq then wireless for longer distance then only have 2 of them. and 2 AP.
This is my house. ive just reset my gps hope it shows up on planet. planet needs updating anyway though.
Not even going to bother writing descriptions.
take a look.
